Watts, S. (2020) states that the practice of continuously scrolling through social media and other news websites to stay up to date on the latest news, even—and, it seems, especially—when the news is negative.

Emotional Processing

Emotional processing is the psychological mechanism through which a person absorbs and resolves emotional distress, gradually reducing its intensity so that daily thoughts, activities, and behaviors can continue unhindered as stated by Rachman, S. (1980)

Doomscrolling and Mental Health

Emerging evidence indicates that Problematic Social Media Use (PSMU) reflects the interplay of cognitive, personality, and emotional vulnerabilities. Excessive engagement seems to be sustained by maladaptive self-referential cognitions, such as compensatory online interaction and perfectionistic discrepancies (Fioravanti et al., 2020).

I somehow relate myself with this problem when I am continously scrolling down I have absorbed mixed emotions that is even hardly recognizeable. This makes me interested with the relationship between Doomscroling and Emotion Processing.
